The Reality of Plastic Surgery
Does anyone know what ever happed to "Extreme Makeover"? How about "The Swan"? With the rising popularity of plastic surgery, how come these two shows are no longer on the air? Frankly, I found these shows much like a bad car accident.....you wanted to look away, but couldn't help yourself from rubber necking to get a real close look. Did they lose popularity because all the women ended up looking like Barbie with implants? Was it too personal? Afterall, the home edition of "Extreme Makeover" is still going strong and shows no sign of stopping. Maybe it's because it has a direct impact on society, in a good way, rather than dwelling on the selfish needs of those who feel they need to look absolutely perfect in order to succeed in life. I still find shows about plastic surgery fascinating, no matter how graphic they are. I'm always intrigued by the reasons behind the decisions, especially those who continually go back for more. One show highlighted a young mother, who had several surgeries and felt she needed to go back for more in her quest for the perfect after-pregnancy body. She was so determined to spend the $50,000 she didn't have that she and her husband sold their house in order for her to complete her dream of perfection. That mindset fascinates me and, what's more fascinating, is that her husband went along with it, albeit begrudgingly. There are so many stories I could share, but my next favorite reality show is on now.....'American Idol', and I just can't turn my head away!

So would you have plastic surgery if money was not an issue and you had the most talented doctor regarding your procedure?
No, I wouldn't, but that's how I feel about myself today. Maybe in another ten years, I would change my mind.
