The Greatest Hits Of The Sixties

For those of you who read my blog on a regular basis, you know I'm a fan of Barry Manilow's music. His last CD, 'Greatest Hits of the 50's', which was released in February, made it to the number one spot on the charts and is still selling in the top 200. On the heels of that CD, we will hear 'Greatest Hits of the 60's', to be tentatively released on October 31st of this year. What Clive Davis did for Rod Stewart, who also has a greatest hits coming out soon of rock n' roll covers from the 70s, he is also doing for Barry. Barry left Arista briefly after Clive was asked to step down due to a clause in his contract that required him to do so when he turned a certain age. Barry then signed with Concord Records, which released his last collection of original songs 'Here At The Mayflower'. Unfortunately for diehard fans, this may be the very last collection ever of original songs from Barry. On the other hand, Barry is enjoying a huge surge in his popularity through these cover CDs and his 'Music and Passion' show at the Las Vegas Hilton. The new CD is slated to cover songs by the Beatles ('And I Love Her')as well as duets with the group 'The Association' and a couple of songs from songwriter, Burt Bacarach. For those of you who are just discovering Barry's music, after 30 years in the business, please pick up some of his recently re-released classics like 'Barry Manilow Live'. This is a talented man who was deemed by 'Rolling Stone' magazine as "the showman of our generation" and who is not only a writer, but arranger and producer for such other artists as Dionne Warwick and, of course, Bette Midler.
