Healthy Aging
The other night I was flipping through channels when I came upon an interview with Dr. Andrew Weil. I've been a fan of Dr. Weil's for quite a few years. He used to be a regular guest on a local talk show many years ago and when I heard him speak about alternative medicine, I was hooked. Although Dr. Weil is a specialist in alternative medicine, he is a traditionally trained doctor, who incorporates traditional medicine with a healthy, balanced lifestyle. His newest book, 'Healthy Aging, A Lifelong Guide To YOur Physical And Spiritual Well-Being', is a no-nonsense approach to doing something we will all hopefully get to do...growing old. Dr. Weil puts the brakes on the notion that we have to cling to our youth. There's really no way anyone can do that. The most important thing is to maintain a healthy lifestyle, both in mind and body. If you are 50 years old today, chances are you will live to at least 80. Unfortunately, today many people over the age of 60 suffer from morbid obesity and depression. What can the quality of life be if one is to live another 20 years after that? This is just one of many topics that Dr. Weil deals with in this book as well as how men and women age differently.
