Smash The Fat!

I originally wrote about the publishing of this book a while back. I had a chance to pick up a copy recently. If you don't already know it, Ian K. Smith (the author) is one of the panelists on "Celebrity Fit Club" (VH1). Ian is a doctor who originally developed this plan, not only for his patients, but for his aunt who was very overweight. The plan itself is divided into the four phases with the first being dedicated to a ten-day detox. As you can imagine, you will be eliminating a lot of foods in the first phase, including animal protein, which means getting your protein from other sources like soy. Other than that, you can only eat fresh veggies and fruit, some low-fat milk and yogurt, egg whites and two cups of brown rice a day. You can also have some herbal tea, but only water to drink after that. This is a ten-day regimen that can help you shed around a pound a day. In the second phase of the diet, you can begin to add in animal protein (lean, of course) and one egg, but everything else is basically the same. You then move on to the next two phases (roughly four weeks total), wherein you can add in things like whole grain bread, some pasta and potatoes. This is a very easy book to read since he writes on a level that anyone can understand and he, of course, wisely includes recipes for every meal and a great section on physical activity and how many calories you can burn doing each (he's very big on exercise). There's also a place where you can journal. If you haven't already found a plan that works for you, you can certainly try this one, however, be prepared to tough it out during the first phase while you are detoxing your body.
