Roanoke Island
In the 16th century a group of settlers arrive on Roanoke Island in North Carolina and built a settlement. Virginia Dare was the very first person born in America from this group of settlers and her birthday is August 18th. The settlement would later be known for all eternity as The Lost Colony. They disappeared as quickly as they came and, to this day, people can only surmise what happened to them. This is just part of the charm of Roanoke Island, N.C. There is also an amazing waterfront community which is dotted with amazing homes and a quaint town with upscale shops and restaurants. If you are ever in the area of the outer banks, you must spend a day touring Roanoke Island. It's truly enchanting!
