Making Pilates Aerobic
Finally, we are getting some nice, albeit slightly chilly weather here in New York. Soon the trees and bushes will be in full bloom and after that comes beach weather. Knowing full well that I will have to eventually get into a bathing suit, I made the decision to purchase a Pilates machine. Although I've practiced Pilates on the floor, when I'm finished I pine away for the day when I can have a machine that will help me do the work. Finally, that day has come. This is called the Aero Pilates machine and it not only enables you to perform all the Pilates movements, but the jump board at the base of the machine turns your Pilates machine into a treadmill. This mini-trampoline enables you to bounce up and down, while lying down on both or alternating legs, which increases your heart rate for a cardio work out. This is truly a gift for someone like me who suffers the lingering effects of injuries acquired form performing yoga for many years. Pilates is truly a much gentler exercise. Afterall, it was created by Joseph Pilates many years ago to help dancers who suffered from injuries while performing their craft and to keep dancers from acquiring further injuries. Machines like this are often very expensive and certainly not portable, while this one was purchased for under $300 from QVC and it actually folds up in the middle for easy storage and weighs only 30 pounds.
